Here's the truth. Automation isn't a software course. It's a decision you already know how to make.

That's a mental model, not a fact, the idea that automating a task means learning new tools. And it's the one keeping you doing the same 40-minute slog every week.

Here's the idea this whole issue is built around: you don't automate a task by mastering a tool. You automate it by capturing your judgment once, then handing the typing to the intern.

So let me show you a plain picture of how this actually goes for a capable guy in his fifties. Not an invented case study. Just how the thing works when someone does it right.

He didn't go shopping for tools. He started with one question: what do I retype from scratch every single week?

For him it was the same client question, over and over. Every week, a slightly different version of it lands in his inbox, and every week he sits down and writes the answer again from a blank page. Forty minutes, gone, every time.

So he did one thing. He wrote his answer down once, as three plain bullets: the question people actually ask, the answer he gives, and the mistake most people make.

Keep that mechanic. It's exactly right: AI handles the tireless execution, your judgment decides what's worth doing.

Ignore the rest. The "anyone can do it" tone and the fifteen-side-hustles menu will leave you more overwhelmed, not less. You don't need fifteen options. You need the one repetitive task you already do every week, and one place to point the hours it frees.

Use it as a foil, not a model.

Before you automate anything, run this two-minute test. Open your sent folder and your calendar and ask: what did I do this week that I also did last week, and the week before, almost word for word? That repeated thing, the reply you retype, the summary you rewrite, the update you rebuild, is your first automation target. Don't pick the task that sounds most impressive. Pick the one you're most tired of doing by hand. The boring, repeated rep is the one that pays you back the most hours, because you'll never stop needing it done.

Do exactly one thing before the next issue. It costs zero dollars and five minutes. Name the one task you retype from scratch every single week, and write your answer down once as three plain bullets: the question, your answer, the mistake people make. That's not the automation yet. That's the judgment the intern needs before it can type a word.
